The impact of racial trauma on Black youth starts,"or is best avoided" in the classroom. Clinicians working in school systems have the unique opportunity to educate, advocate, and intervene in meaningful ways that can disrupt the effects of racial trauma. This session examines the influence racial trauma has on the achievement gap and discipline practices. Participants will be able to identify how racial trauma directly impacts the STPP and learn techniques to identify bias and discriminatory practices in policies and procedures.

To earn CE credit, social workers must log in at the scheduled time, attend the entire course, and complete an online course evaluation. Certificates of completion will be emailed within 10 business days of course completion.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
  • Define the school-to-prison pipeline and understand its connection to racial trauma and be able to list the school, state and federal policies that contribute to this epidemic
  • Demonstrate knowledge the impact racial trauma has on Black Youth, specifically using case studies that illustrate how elements of the STPP target Black children
  • Apply specific techniques and skills to assist Black youth with healing from racial trauma and address the school-to-prison pipeline epidemic in their current system
