Susan Esquilin, PhD, ABPP-Clinical
Biography
Dr. Susan Esquilin, PhD, ABPP-Clinical is a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist, trained in developmental and clinical psychology at the University of Chicago, with a diplomate in clinical psychology from the American Board of Professional Psychology. Since 1971, Dr. Esquilin has been working in the field of psychology as a clinician, supervisor, and administrator in mental health units of hospitals, as an independent practitioner focusing on trauma and conducting forensic evaluations Dr. Esquilin directed an APA approved psychology internship program, and has served on the faculties of Montclair State University, Rutgers-Newark, and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ. Dr. Esquilin has presented at both state and national conferences as well having been the author of many articles regarding child abuse and trauma, the significance of race and culture on psychological issues and treatment, and the role of mental health professionals in the child welfare system. She is the co-author of a book chapter on forensic evaluations of parents in the child protection system. Dr. Esquilin serves on the Model Court Committee in Essex County and is a member of the Equity and Fairness Subcommittee. With two colleagues, she has been providing webinars for mental health professionals to develop skills in addressing racial issues in treatment. She has been the facilitator of the Anti-Racist Alliance-NJ for the past five years. Dr. Esquilin is a founding member and Co-Chair of the Anti-Racial Mental Health Alliance of New Jersey (ARMHA-NJ). The NJ Psychological Association named Dr. Esquilin New Jersey Psychologist of the Year for 2017 and awarded her the NJPA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020.
