This interactive workshop focuses on the major elements of using the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, Text Revision (DSM-5-TR). Upon completion of this course, participants will have a greater understanding of the DSM-5-TR and how to use this tool for the objective, evidenced based diagnosing of a client in order to help the clinician in the assessment/placement decision making. Participants will be able to recognize the difference between use, abuse and dependence that existed in the DSM-IV-TR, and the ability to understand and consistently utilize the new diagnostic criteria of Substance-Related and Addictive Disorders (mild, moderate and severe). Small group exercises will enable participants to utilize critical thinking while helping them to gain inter-rater reliability in making a substance use diagnosis using the DSM-5-TR.
At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate capacity of differential diagnosis utilizing a practice vignette
- Identify and list at least 3 changes in the substance use chapter of the DSM that have occurred since the previous version of the DSM (DSM-IV-TR)
- Give examples in utilizing the diagnostic criteria in the substance use chapter with a practice vignette
- Identify three diagnostic criteria that could impact a substance use diagnosis when working with medicinal marijuana patients
