Structural Family Therapy (SFT), developed by Dr. Salvadore Minuchin, is based on the belief that individual psychological problems are symptoms of dysfunction within the family system. The family is viewed as an organized system with an underlying structure that governs how the family members interact. This course will discuss SFTs philosophical beliefs, work on developing the family map and identifying the family's strength to bring change to the family.
At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Examine the current cultural view of parenting, children and adolescents
- Discuss why today's mental health field does not make relationships a priority
- Explore "What is Therapy"
- What change is in SFT
- Describe Structural Family Therapy philosophical beliefs
- Identify core concept of Structural Family Therapy's theory of family organization and functioning: subsystems, boundaries, affiliations, hierarchy, coalitions
