Exploring Asian American Body Image and Disordered Eating
1:00pm - 4:00 pm ET
$60.00

The Asian American experience is often absent in clinical settings and mainstream narratives around disordered eating and body image issues, despite research showing that Asian American women experience eating disorders at rates comparable to white women and higher than other women of color. This training seeks to bridge the gap between the prevalence of these issues for Asian Americans and their surrounding invisibility. We will explore key contributors that affect Asian Americans' self-perception and their relationship with their bodies and food, including bicultural identity, acculturation stress and racial trauma, and the impact of Asian cultural values and norms. Finally, we will highlight culturally responsive treatment approaches that honor Asian cultural contexts, promoting healing and empowerment for individuals navigating these challenges.
